Large marijuana stash found inside Foothills home

Local and federal authorities found 7,200 pounds of marijuana at a Foothills home on Monday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had been monitoring a suspected stash house in the 3800 block of North Alvernon Way, near East River Road when they witnessed two men drive an SUV hauling an 18-foot trailer into the home’s driveway, according to an ICE news release.

The two men climbed out of the truck and fled into the desert, eluding a search by ICE agents and Pima County Sheriff’s deputies, the release said.

Search warrants executed on the property turned up 5,500 pounds of marijuana in the trailer and another 1,700 inside the home, as well as a “sophisticated repackaging systemâ€
