The costs illegal immigrants place on the state of Kansas are hard to measure.

That was one finding of a Legislative Post Audit report released Tuesday on the economic impact of people in the country illegally.

The report reviewed existing studies on the issue. It found that illegal immigrants increase the costs to taxpayers for education, public health services and incarceration. However, it also found about half of illegal immigrant workers pay income taxes and all pay sales and property taxes and other taxes.

The report also found illegal immigrants negatively impact wages and job opportunities for low-skilled workers. According to the report, illegal immigrants make up two- to four-percent of the Kansas work force.

The report also notes Kansas-specific data is difficult to find.
