Latino groups reject Cruz's candidacy saying he's "anti-immigrant"

Two Latino groups on Monday rejected the presidential candidacy of Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, saying that he could alienate Hispanics from that party even more given his "anti-immigrant" stance and his rejection of President Barack Obama's executive action measures on behalf of undocumented immigrants.

Cruz, a senator from Texas who was born to a Cuban father and an American mother, on Monday became the first politician to officially announce his intention to run for the White House in the 2016 election and, if he wins, he would be the first Hispanic president in the country's history.

The Dream Action Coalition, which defends the rights of young undocumented "dreamers" who benefit under the Deferred Action, or DACA, program announced by Obama in 2012, on Monday expressed its "rejection" of Cruz and said that it was "sad" to have to position itself in that way vis-a-vis the first Latino to announce his presidential candidacy.

"The only policy of Ted Cruz that Latinos hear is that he wants to do away with DACA for the dreamers, block (the associated) DAPA (program) for our parents and obstruct immigrant reform for years longer," said the co-directors of the coalition, Cesar Vargas and Erika Andiola.

DAPA is the program announced last November by Obama that will benefit undocumented parents whose children are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who can prove that they have lived in the country since before Jan. 1, 2010, and do not have a criminal record.

"Although Ted Cruz has a Latino name and immigration in his past, there the similarities between the Latino community and him end," said Vargas and Andiola, saying that Cruz "does not have a real chance to win the (Republican) primaries" and is launching his campaign only "to build his personal brand."

The CASA in Action organization, and in particular its Virginia branch, criticized the fact that Cruz chose that state in which to announce his presidential campaign, saying that the majority of Virginia voters support comprehensive immigration reform and are far removed from the Republican senator's policies.

"If they don't turn their policies around, Virginia Republicans are facing political oblivion. Accepting anti-Latino and anti-immigrant candidates like Ted Cruz is not a recipe for survival," said Lindolfo Carballo, the Virginia director for CASA in Action, in a communique.

In a national survey conducted in October 2014 by Latino Decisions, just 24 percent of registered Hispanic voters said they would consider voting for Cruz for president, compared with 32 percent who said that they would vote for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and 35 percent who said they would support Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

Cruz on Monday officially declared his candidacy for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, touting himself as the true conservative candidate and one who wants to "restore the promise" of the American Dream and the "revolutionary idea" that American rights come from "God Almighty."

Cruz said that the American Dream "has enabled millions of people from all over the world to come to America with nothing and to achieve anything," but he added that the dream is "slipping away."

The Tea Party favorite said that, if elected, he would overturn Obama's 2010 Affordable Care Act and do away with the Internal Revenue Service to establish a flat tax.

He also promised to modify the immigration system to strengthen the borders and create a system that benefits those who come to this country in search of the American Dream.

The senator, a graduate of Harvard and Princeton, also presented himself as the candidate who will fight against Washington elitism and excessive interference by the government in the lives of Americans.

Yes, of course he's anti-immigrant because he's pro-American. Why would American Latinos expect anything else from a candidate for President of the United States? Oh, wait, because they're anti-American and pro-Immigrant.

See the line? Pick a side.

The "Latino" groups would abandon a Latino candidate for President simply because he wants to enforce US law, which means he just wants to do the job he's elected and paid to do. What does that say about "Latino" groups? Quite a lot. All these "Latino" groups are owned by the drug cartels, doing their bidding to support the illegal drug trade and human smuggling operations. It's time for Americans of all ethnic origins to turn their backs on these "Latino" groups, especially American Hispanics and Latinos, because these groups demean you by using your ethnic origin as their organization identifier when they don't represent you, instead they represent foreign persons who happen to be of the same ethnic origin who plan to take your jobs, your kids' seats in college, and stick you and your spouse with the bill for it, the same as every other citizen taxpayer.
