Latinos urged to use political power
By Hernán Rozemberg - Express-News
Though it's a cross-border issue that should be tackled bilaterally, the U.S. government has turned unauthorized immigration into a domestic issue and now the best hope for a resolution rests with the growing political power of U.S. Latinos on their government, a leading scholar said Tuesday.
Jorge Bustamante, who has roots on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, tackled the ongoing immigration dilemma during a lecture at Trinity University to an auditorium crowd of about 200.
The migration phenomenon has not changed much since he first began studying it four decades ago, said Bustamante, founder and president of Mexico's Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana, who also teaches sociology at Notre Dame University.
The profile and job placement of many émigrés has certainly changed — there are more women now, and most are seeking work in the service and construction industries as opposed to the traditional agricultural draw — but their purpose and conditions have remained steadfast, Bustamante said.
What had all but disappeared but began making a comeback in recent years are governmental raids in immigrant heavy workplaces and neighborhoods — practiced widely in the 1980s and early 1990s, going dormant until an immigration enforcement renaissance following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

What bothers me is the reference to "...The most important grievance of the Mexican migrant is the police raid, the main source of violation of human rights..." .
Is it "OK" for individuals who live in a Society that affords little to no "...human rights..." to ILLEGALLY come HERE, to MY home & insist on their "...human rights..." ?
In a word= "No".
In my humble opinion (seasoned by Military Service and Combat), if they WANT "...human rights..." to be applied to them in this country,
a) don't come here unless you do it legally
b) learn the language and customs of your new host Country, and eventually
c) become a CITIZEN.
PS, keep your criminals in your own country.
