Law Enforcement Officers’ Border Security Efforts Get a Presidential Boost
Donald Trump condemns Dems' attempts to thwart police from cooperating with ICE in stemming tide of lethal drugs

President Donald Trump delivered remarks at the 125th annual Conference and Exposition of the International Association of Chiefs of Police on Monday afternoon in Orlando, Florida — and he heaped praise on attendees’ brave efforts in working with federal Immigration and Customs’ Enforcement (ICE) personnel to keep America safe.
“My administration will always honor, cherish, and support the men and women in blue, and we are proud to do it,” Trump told the crowd at the Orange County Convention Center during General Assembly and Uniform Day.
“Every single day of my administration we will stand for law, order and justice,” the commander-in-chief told those assembled.

“We understand that reducing crime begins with respecting law enforcement,” he added, then expounded on this thought by emphasizing his objection to politicians who deliver “escalat[ing] political attacks on our courageous police officers.”
“I’ve never seen it more than over the past few years,” Trump said.
“It’s disgraceful. Politicians who spread this dangerous, anti-police sentiment make life easier for criminals and more dangerous for law-abiding citizens. It must stop now.” .
Among the criminals the president was referring to were those who cross U.S. borders illegally.
“We are taking back our streets from drug lords, gangs, and crime,” the president noted, later on in his speech referring specifically to the notorious gang known as MS-13.
The president highlighted the efforts of the federal government to help local law enforcement officers stem the tide of lethal drugs that make their way across the U.S. borders.
“Today I am announcing another $42.4 million for the high-intensity drug trafficking areas program to attack this epidemic,” said the president.
He also told attendees that this grant funding would go to more than 50 innovative projects targeting the greatest drug threats facing the United States.
“Last year, our brave ICE agents seized one million pounds of narcotics, including almost 7,000 pounds of heroin and more than 2,300 pounds of fentanyl, saving thousands upon thousands of American lives.”
He noted, “Last year alone, ICE removed nearly 130,000 criminal aliens from our country,” adding that his foes “don’t like that.”
The criminal aliens to whom Trump referred include, as he said, “thousands of vicious gang members” and “MS 13 predators.”
“Yet these brave ICE officers have been subjected to shameless attacks by leading members of the Democrat Party, including outrageous calls to abolish ICE,” the president asserted.

Trump says “it’s disgraceful” that some politicians “attack” law enforcement. “Politicians who spread this dangerous, anti-police sentiment make life easier for criminals and more dangerous for law-abiding citizens,” Trump tells International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Trump called out Democrats’ failure to support local law enforcement by blocking funding requests.
“[Democrats] fight us at every single turn, whether it’s law enforcement or military … but we win, ” said Trump, after assuring attendees they would get funding despite Democrats’ opposition.
“We condemn the vilification of law enforcement and law enforcement officers,” he added. “We stand proudly with the heroes of ICE and Border Patrol and law enforcement in general,” he said.
“We also strongly oppose efforts to shackle local police departments and prevent them from cooperating with their federal partners,” Trump explained. “Every day, these sanctuary city policies force the release of criminal aliens and gang members right back onto our streets, putting innocent civilians at grave risk.”
The president also said, “I will fight every day for your right to cooperate with federal law enforcement and to protect your communities as you wish,” adding that he believed everyone in the room “worked brilliantly with federal authorities.”
