Lawmakers Reach Agreement on Employer Sanctions
Lawmakers Reach Agreement on Employer Sanctions
May 31st, 2007 @ 2:02pm by Doug Ramsey/KTAR
An agreement has been reached on a compromise to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants.
Sponsor Russell Pearce said a first violation will mean a minimum 10-day suspension of the employer's business license.
"We're going to a two strike system, but there will be suspensions. The Senate didn't have suspension on a first strike. Well, that's employer amnesty. If you knowingly hire an illegal alien and have no penalty, that's employer amnesty. So we'll fix that," Pearce said.
"It will be until you fix the problem, but minimum 10 days," Pearce said.
The bill will also require employees to be screened using a free federal database.
The second strike means something much more serious.
"On the second offense of knowingly hiring an illegal alien, you need to find another state to do business in, because it won't be in Arizona anymore," Pearce said.
"The number one issue to stop what's going on with this invasion is no jobs. And we're going to take back America one state at a time. We're going to start here in Arizona," Pearce said.
The state employer sanctions bill could be headed for the governor's desk next week.
If passed and signed by the governor, the law would take effect this fall.

This is great....kick them out of the state...omg. And first offense is to close them down for ten days. It should be that they close them down for six months...and they have to pay salary to any legal employees till they are open again
