Gee....the illegal violates fed. immigration law...gives fake addresses, fake phone numbers and says d/n name of his roommate or the "friend" who dropped him off at the hospital......and the police suspect he's lying...yeah, I think there's a 99.9% chance they are absolutely right. Arrest him, indict him, jail him and deport him now. LL

Police say Lawrence gunshot victim's story doesn't add up

LAWRENCE — Police say they are baffled by a gunshot victim's account of a frightening ordeal the man said he experienced early yesterday after leaving a Broadway bar.

Salvador Lopez, 25, who describes himself as an illegal immigrant, said he was mugged by a stranger, dragged into a car where his hands were tied behind his back, robbed of $200, kicked out of the car and then shot in the arm before his assailants sped off in a silver BMW.

At one point, he recalled overhearing three men argue over whether they should kill him. After his abductor's car sped away, Lopez told police, he was able to free himself of the cable wire that bound his hands and call a friend on his cell phone. The friend then called a cab to bring him to 51 Newbury St. instead of the hospital.

Initially, Lopez said he thought he was just grazed. But when the wound appeared to be more serious, he said a friend he knows only as Caroline drove him to the hospital.

But police are suspicious about the incident because the address Lopez gave them doesn't exist, his telephone number is fake, he doesn't know the last name of the woman he was supposed to be living with, and none of the area cab companies can recall picking him up.

"About all we can confirm from his story is that he was shot and was dropped off at the hospital by a woman who left before police arrived," police Chief John Romero said. "There are a few unanswered questions with this incident, and detectives will be meeting with him again to clear things up, because right now, things aren't adding up."

Lopez was transferred from Lawrence General Hospital to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where Romero said he was being treated for non-life threatening wounds.

Lopez told police he moved here from California two weeks ago to look for work.

"We did observe marks on both wrists, which is consistent with being tied with something and bruising to his right forehead area," Detective Carlos Cueva wrote in his incident report.
