The National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers (NAFBPO) extracts and condenses the material that follows from Mexican and Central and South American on-line media sources on a daily basis.
Over the last week amongst the violence in Mexico, the editorials of the various newspapers have been taking an inward look. They are starting to actually blame their own governments as the root cause of the human rights violations. This is a big deal. Acknowledgment of their part in all of this is a long step forward. There are anectodal stories coming out of Mexico that the President of Mexico,Felipe Calderon, has had to flee the presidential palace to the safety of US Navy assets on at least four occasions. The fall of Monterrey Mexico to the drug cartels and the murder of it’s mayor was a wake-up call. Why it took so long is anybody’s guess.

Consumer demand is reviving even as the export-driven manufacturing industry bounces back faster than domestic sectors like services, Miguel Messmacher said today in a telephone interview from Mexico City. The Finance Ministry will give an estimate for first-quarter growth April 30, and the statistics agency will report the official figure May 20.
