Legal Immigration is Good for America

Statement by John Cox, author of blockbuster book: “POLITIC$, Inc.”

Legal immigration is good for America. It makes us more productive, it is good for business, and it enriches our culture. We need more immigrants who are willing to contribute in a positive way to our nation’s growth and prosperity. But we need to ensure that immigrants come here legally. They must wait their turn in line, just like countless immigrants have throughout our history. And they need to learn English, the language that binds us together as a nation, regardless of our national origin.

    ILLEGAL Immigration is:

Unfair to small business who must compete with businesses that break the law with undocumented, cheap labor. Businesses that want to comply with the law are literally forced to cheat to stay in business, perpetuating a cycle of unfairness and illegality.

Unfair to workers who see their wages undercut by unfair competition from other countries. These workers from elsewhere have much lower costs of living in their home countries. They send the money home where their families live well while American families with much higher costs struggle.

Unfair to local government which is strained by millions of people who aren’t contributing and straining Medicaid and local education budgets

Unfair to law abiding Americans and law enforcement agencies because literally thousands of crimes and accidents can be traced to undocumented people who we literally have no knowledge of except when they commit crimes or engage in unsafe or threatening behavior. We have no way to trace where they go and little way to actually prevent crime. Much crime goes unreported as well, because undocumented workers are hesitant to report crime, afraid that authorities will focus on them as well.

Unfair to the people who have applied to come to America legally. They are watching people cut in line ahead of them and are discouraging them from thinking that America is a place where the rule of law is respected.

Unfair to the people who remain behind in those countries undocumented aliens have left. Those governments, who have failed to create an environment which creates jobs and encourages investment, are protected and propped up by billions of dollars coming illegally from America.

    Interview Talking points:

    • Welcoming legal immigration. Legal immigrants contribute to our economic strength and enrich our culture.

    • Crackdown on employers of illegals. The law against employing illegal aliens must be fully enforced. This will dry up jobs for illegals.

    • A full wall not necessary. Building a wall along every foot of our southern border with Mexico is not a real solution. While we need more border security in areas overrun by illegal aliens, a wall the entire length of the border would be wasteful and unnecessary, especially in remote locations.

    • No amnesty. Immigrants who came here illegally shouldn’t be given a blanket amnesty. That is wrong and is contrary to our respect for the law.

    • No “Guest workers.” We don’t need guest workers, we need American citizens. “Guest workers" temporarily living in this country, send all their money out of the country to their relatives. They will not be fully part of the American Dream and will not help our economy.

    • Border protection. We need to protect our borders and ensure that all who enter are doing so in an orderly way that doesn’t overwhelm our communities, placing undue burdens on housing, schools and infrastructure.

    • Give preference to legal immigrants with skills. We need to give preference to those who bring valuable skills to our nation. While unskilled workers offer us a valuable service, some industries are in dire need of skilled labor, and we should allow the market to determine how they fill those jobs.

If all the laws concerning legal immigrants were enforced he would be right. But there are many "legal immigrants" that lie and cheat also. They need to be prosecuted just like illegal aliens and their employers should. It's all part of the same open borders mentality.
