Pot claim costs supe county car
    By Ignacio Ibarra
    ARIZONA DAILY STAR

Cochise County Supervisor Paul Newman was relieved of his county vehicle privileges Tuesday after a closed-door session in connection with a claim he smoked marijuana while behind the wheel.

Newman, who represents Douglas, Bisbee and the surrounding rural areas, will now be reimbursed for using his own car while on county business.

Following the executive session requested by Newman, board Chairman Pat Call said the action stems from a Sept. 15 incident in which Newman reportedly drove his taxpayer-provided 2002 Crown Victoria to a Border Patrol checkpoint on Arizona 90. A drug-sniffing dog alerted to the vehicle and an agent reported smelling marijuana.

Call said the incident was reported to him by someone outside county government Oct. 18 and he confirmed the incident the following day with the agent in charge of the Border Patrol's Naco station.

Newman said the information contained in the Border Patrol report is "not accurate," and that he "was not smoking marijuana on that day."

He said Call and outgoing Supervisor Les Thompson were motivated by politics. Newman also said the pair violated his privacy rights.

Joe Navarro, a senior patrol agent, wrote in an incident report obtained by the Cochise County Sheriff's Department that marijuana residue, ashes and bits of burnt rolling paper were in the ashtray of Newman's vehicle. He also wrote that Newman acknowledged he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle and told the agent "he felt bad because he was the Cochise County supervisor and an attorney."

I think MMP is winning a battle for all of us. I am in their home website and feeding forums news from their site. It does nice things because the diary they are running refutes a great deal of the Shoot 'Em Dead garbage about the MMP. One forum I am in started doing their own research and they are outraged at the .... what.... lying the Border Patrol Supers did when they reported on the MMP in Arizona.

You probably know this Husker.. but it needs to get known further out there. The MMP made arrangements with the Border Patrol to patrol areas that did NOT have sensors in them. However... the ACLU... which was spoiling for a fight... went out there wandering around and set off a bunch of sensors. I have been sick or in bed so if you have already spread that.. just ignore.

Husker.. My brother is a lawyer and an advisor to some political campains. He suggested the post cards would be a bright idea. He doesn't know what he thinks of a National Referendum on Immigration, but he did say that would be a hell of a kick in the backside to Congress.

    I am pushing post cards.
I am pushing a national referendum on Immigration. Lets get the Immigration Quotas out of the hands of people who know Mexico has an open check book in support of the invasion.!!

"What it appears is that Newman found a "crack" in the law and is trying to use it. They are going after the campers. They say that there is a max of 7 days of camping, and that can only be done once every 30 days"

Is this the same Newman you were referring to in the post about the Bible College.

    If it is then....
