At least four people were shot and one was beaten or stabbed in an outbreak of violence at a trailer court near the Ross Barnett Reservoir on Monday night.

Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said two of the victims appeared to be seriously injured.

The victims were taken to area hospitals, said Reservoir Fire Chief Scott Berry.

Fourteen suspected illegal immigrants, some of whom may have been involved in the violence or witnesses to it, were taken in a bus to the Rankin County Detention Center for questioning, Pennington said.

Because those involved do not speak English, translators had to be called in, Pennington said.

Late Monday night, investigators were trying to determine what sparked the violence.

The incident apparently stemmed from a dispute that began Saturday afternoon. Pennington could not provide details.

The trailer court is located near Mattie Burnett Circle and Fannin Landing Circle on the north side of Pelahatchie Bay.
