'Less Educated' Flock to Obama
'Less Educated' Flock to Obama
Obama bests McCain among non-whites with a high school education or less, 73 percent to 17 percent.
Wednesday, July 9, 2008
(UPI) - Likely Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois is making inroads among voters with less formal education, a Gallup Poll indicated.
In June, 43 percent of voters with no more than a high school education were as likely to prefer presumptive Republican candidate Sen.
John McCain of Arizona as to prefer Obama, also at 43 percent, the Gallup Poll released Wednesday indicated. Obama struggled to appeal to this voting segment during the primary. Obama leads McCain among women with less formal education, 44 percent to 40 percent, and trails McCain by 4 percentage points among men of similar educational circumstance, 46 percent to 42 percent, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.
McCain leads Obama 51 percent to 34 percent among whites with less education, but Obama bests McCain among non-whites with a high school education or less, 73 percent to 17 percent. Results are based on telephone interviews conducted with 23,731 registered voters in June as part of Gallup Poll Daily tracking
. The total sample has a margin of error of 1 percentage point. The margin of error for subgroups ranges from 1 percentage point to 2 percentage points.

I would say Obama has the voters that depend on social programs to survive, and these are who he is catering to.

Schneider: College educated, non-religious voters carry Obama
Posted: 11:14 PM ET
From CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider
(CNN) – CNN just predicted Obama will win the Oregon primary. How did the Illinois senator win there so easily?
Obama won overwhelming support from Oregon voters who attended college. Nearly 60 percent of that demographic went for Obama there and those voters made up nearly 80 percent of the demographic.
Obama also won big in another category: among those voters who say they do not have a religion, or have another religion outside of Catholicism, Protestantism, and Judaism.
Nearly 30 percent of Oregon Democrats said they were not religious and those voters went for Obama by 21 percentage points, 60 percent to 39 percent. And among those voters who listed "other" as their religion, a group that made up 10 percent of the vote, Obama won by 42 points, 70 percent to 28 percent.

Gee, less educated minorities tend to support a minority candidate? What a shocker!
Of the group sampled, I wonder how many of them cheered O.J. Simpson's not guilty verdict?
It just goes to show that we're all guilty of a bias towards people with whom we can relate. Unfortunately, neither candidate relates to our ilk
