New Indictment in Intern Murder Case

The man accused of killing a federal intern in Washington in 2001 has been charged with threatening a witness in the case. An indictment filed Wednesday in District of Columbia Superior Court accuses the man, Ingmar Guandique, 28, with writing a note threatening to kill a witness identified only as J.G. if the witness cooperated with law enforcement in the case. Mr. Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who had been serving a 10-year sentence for separate assaults in Rock Creek Park, was charged in April with first-degree murder and other counts in connection with the death of the intern, Chandra Levy. Ms. Levy, 24, disappeared in May 2001. Her body was found a year later in Rock Creek Park. The case has been blamed for destroying the political career of former Representative Gary Condit, Democrat of California, who was romantically linked to Ms. Levy.
