Lexington and Georgetown police made separate but significant busts Tuesday.

Lexington police seized 2,000 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people Tuesday afternoon after serving a search warrant at a house on Ice House Way on the city's east side, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The names of those charged with trafficking marijuana were not released because it might inhibit the investigation, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

Roberts said the marijuana was seized from the house by a narcotics unit. She said more charges and more arrests might be coming.

Meanwhile, Georgetown police arrested five people and seized an estimated 360 pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash, said spokesman Lt. Robert Swanigan.

The arrests came Tuesday night in three separate traffic stops that left a rented house on Starting Gate Drive on Georgetown's east side, Swanigan said.

The house had been under surveillance for suspected drug activity.

Most of the marijuana was wrapped in cellophane in one vehicle, and the money was found in bundles in seven or eight containers in a second vehicle, Swanigan said. A fourth vehicle found in the garage was also seized by police, Swanigan said.

The five men said they were from Mexico. Swanigan said the men had multiple identifications.

The men were taken to the Scott County jail on drug-related charges.
