WASHINGTON, April 29, 2013 — The Gang of Eight’s 844-page immigration reform bill is promising to be the great bipartisan solution to all of America’s immigration woes. It is being touted as creating solutions on issues ranging from national security, legalization of illegal aliens and economic recovery.

This plan, however, is nothing more than a nightmare for American citizens and anyone who obeys the law and respects the sovereignty of the United States needs to oppose this legislation. Here are some of the lies, half-truths or misstatements made with this bill and the Senators who support it.

Senator Jeff Flake lies about the Border Security.

A member of the Gang of Eight, Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), stated in an op-ed for National Review, “the bill requires that if they do not achieve a 90 percent effectiveness rate within five years (meaning that 9 of every 10 illegal border crossers is apprehended)”. Unfortunately, according to the proposed legislation, only “high-risk” border sectors would need to reach the 90% effectiveness rate, not the entire border. And only three of nine sectors meet the high-risk status that Senator Flake is talking about.

Illegals will not have to pay back taxes and will not wait in the back of the line

Many supporters of the immigration bill have stated that it is not amnesty because illegal aliens will have to pay back taxes. This is just another lie thwarted on the American public.

According to Dailycaller.com, the text of the legislation states, ”Federal income taxes assessed in accordance with section 6203 of the Internal Revenue Code.” This means any income illegal aliens were receiving off the books or using with fraudulent ID like stolen Social Security numbers would not have to pay back a dime of that income.

Bill would cost Americans trillions

Many in the pro-amnesty movement claim the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill would cost $17 billion over a ten-year period, but that is another lie. The cost on Social Security and Medicare for the newly legalized immigrants alone would be in the trillions. According to the Heritage Foundation, which did a study on the similar amnesty bill of 2006, the cost would be closer to an estimated $2.6 trillion.

Senate Immigration Bill threatens public safety and displaces low-wage Americans

In a Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing, Chris Crane, President of the National ICE Council testified that the Immigration Reform bill would be a major threat to public safety. Crane stated, “This legislation only guarantees legal status for illegal aliens, it has no promise of solving our nation’s immigration problems, no guarantee of stronger enforcement of our nation’s interior.”

Crane followed his substantial claims that the bill was crafted by special interest groups by stating, that immigration law enforcement held a meeting in Washington D.C. to discuss the issue of public safety and not a single member of the Gang of Eight came to the meeting and described that the group as having “contempt” for law-enforcement.

At another Judiciary meeting U.S. Civil Rights and labor lawyer Peter Kirsanow stated that the immigration bill would directly hurt the wages of American workers, especially African-Americans and Latino-Americans, “Due regard must be given to the fact that we have an overabundance of people who are not working today.”

Most Americans favor reducing legal immigration

Regardless of whether it is a Republican or Democrat, the political class promotes the lie that that Americans are gaga about mass immigration from the third world. Such an opinion is not the case and has never been the case.

A recent Fox News poll found that 55% of Americans want fewer legal immigrants. That includes 67% of Republicans, 53% of Independents and 47% of Democrats. Furthermore, the poll shows a super-majority of all Americans regardless of their political affiliation want border enforcement dealt with first.

Gallup has been asking this question since 1965 and on only three occasions has the poll stated that Americans want to keep immigration levels the same, every other time the poll found Americans want to reduce legal immigration.
