San Juan – The U.S. attorney for the District of Puerto Rico said here Wednesday that she will soon meet with representatives of Major League Baseball to discuss ties between Washington Nationals starting pitcher Livan Hernandez and Puerto Rican drug lord Angel Ayala Vazquez.

Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez told a press conference in San Juan that MLB executives contacted her office with concerns about Hernandez's friendship with Ayala Vazquez, who was convicted here Tuesday of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Hernandez is described as having acted as a straw man for some expensive purchases by Ayala Vazquez, a.k.a. "Angelo Millones," said to have made roughly $100 million from peddling drugs at housing projects in Greater San Juan.

The head of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration operations in Puerto Rico, Javier Peña, said Major League Baseball has also reached out to him in connection with Hernandez and Ayala Vazquez.

Several Puerto Rican music stars, including Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel and Elvis Crespo, have come under scrutiny for having performed at concerts organized by Angelo Millones.
