COLDWATER — State charges of sale of false identification cards against Daniel Rogel, 25, were dismissed after agents from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agreed he would be prosecuted federally.

Rogel remains in the Branch County Jail as an illegal alien. Agents from ICE are expected to pick up him on Monday and take him to a federal lock up. Sources said a federal grand jury is scheduled to consider an indictment of the Bronson area resident on Dec. 22 but officials in Grand Rapids with the federal agencies would not confirm or deny the information.

Michigan State Police (MSP) arrested the Mexican national who admitted selling fake Social Security numbers from his Hatmaker Road home near Bronson. MSP troopers found fake Social Security cards and materials, which could be used for fraudulent credit cards. Police reports indicated 36 items were seized.
