Local Parishioners Bring Relief to Asylum Seekers Waiting on Int’l Bridge

PROGRESO – It’s the legal way to enter the United States, but it’s not necessarily the fastest.

A man who has been waiting for 29 days on the Progreso International Bridge says he’s thankful for a group of local parishioners who stop by to feed them.

Among the group are more than 20 children and parents preparing meals for migrants waiting to enter the country.

“They are receptive. Especially the ones who are excited when they see us coming are the kids.

Because they know they are going to get food you know they are going to get. The first thing they open is the bag of chips,” said Father Amador Garza of Holy Spirit Church.

Garza says he along with his parishioners has been going to the bridge for more than three weeks.
