16 state troopers finish course on illegal immigration enforcement

ANNISTON, Ala. The governor says Alabama now has sixteen additional state troopers with the power to arrest illegal immigrants.

Bob Riley and Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers addressed the troopers today at the conclusion of their training at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston.

Currently, the state has 44 troopers already trained in the five-week course. Since 2003, troopers have made 218 arrests of illegal immigrants.

Riley signed an agreement with Homeland Security in 2003 for the training.

Alabama is one of three states with troopers are trained in immigration law. Florida and Arkansas are the other two states.
