I hate to say this but maybe Mexico needed a good cleansing. I made two trips to Cancun ONE TIME--my FIRST and my LAST. It was AWFUL. Oh, those luxury resorts are beautiful but just stay right there because, if you go into town, you are assaulted. Vendors chase you on the streets trying to pressure you into buying from them. The people are just trashy and I have never been SO GLAD to get out of a place as I was when I got on that plane to come home.

One of my friend's son and his bride were stranded there on their honeymoon last week. As of yesterday, they hadn't been able to get out either. I sure can think of millions of places I would rather spend my honeymoon but it sure will be unforgettable for them.
