Los Angeles Vigil to Save the American Worker
Candlelight Rally at Sen. Feinstein's Office Seeks Her Help to Stop Massive
Guest Worker Proposal
WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday February 15, there will be a candlelight vigil in Los Angeles to save an endangered species. It's not the whales or the California Condor this time, so there probably won't be any A-list Hollywood celebrities. The endangered species in need of saving is the middle class American worker threatened with extinction by a proposed massive guest worker program.
Ted Danson will not be there. Neither will Ed Begley, Jr. But hundreds of
ordinary Americans from all across Southern California will be gathering in
front of Sen. Dianne Feinstein's Los Angeles office to hold a candlelight
vigil to ask her to help Save the American Worker.
Some 600 people gathered last month in front of Senate Majority Leader
Bill Frist's office in Nashville for a candlelight vigil, asking him block proposals for a massive foreign guest worker program that would destroy much of what is left of the middle class in America. On February 15, hard-working people from all across Southern California will meet in front of Sen. Feinstein's office at 11111 Santa Monica Boulevard to make the same request: Save the American Worker.
"President Bush has put a massive illegal alien amnesty and foreign guest
worker program at the top of his 2006 legislative agenda," said Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the national immigration reform group that is organizing the vigil. "Nowhere is the disappearance of the middle class more evident than in Southern California, as millions of formerly middle class jobs have been turned into low wage jobs as a result of a huge influx of illegal immigrants into the labor force. The 'immigration reform' plan being promoted by the president that he hopes to move through the Senate, will force millions more American workers all across the country to take lower wages or see their jobs go a foreign guest worker.
"Senator Feinstein is a key member of the Judiciary Committee, which handles immigration policies," Stein continued. "She has a strong and distinguished record when it comes to protecting workers, and her voice is needed more than ever in the upcoming debate about a make-or-break issue for American workers. If a massive new guest worker program, along the lines proposed by President Bush, is enacted, American workers will lose what little bargaining power they have left, and millions will lose their tenuous foothold in the middle class."
The expected Senate debate about a new guest worker program comes at a time of massive job cuts in the manufacturing sector, with Ford and General Motors leading the way. "A massive guest worker program is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The real problem is a relentless assault on middle class workers in this country. The people gathering outside Sen. Feinstein's office will be seeking her leadership to save the middle class worker, before they really do become rarer than the California condor," said Stein.

Great idea!
I think I'll e-mail DA King and see about doing one of those here in Georgia.
