Lou Dobbs Tonight
Friday, September 26, 2008

Tonight, we’ll have full coverage of the economic crisis and a
preview of the first presidential debate; it’s still scheduled
to begin at 9 p.m. tonight with both candidates present,
despite Sen. John McCain’s earlier threat to pull out. Plus:

* The Democrats on Capitol Hill are once again in an
uncomfortable situation. The Dems are siding with President
Bush’s $700 billion plan to bail out big banks at taxpayer
expense. Even some of President Bush’s staunchest supporters -
House Republicans - are balking at the deal and fiscal
conservatives are outraged.

* Wall Street was slammed again last night – with the largest
bank failure in this country’s history. Washington Mutual was
seized by the government agencies and resold to JP
Morgan-Chase. Wa-Mu could no longer operate after customers
withdrew more than $15 billion of deposits since mid-September.

* Residents of San Francisco held a rally yesterday to protest
the city’s illegal alien sanctuary policy. They’re expressing
outrage at the city’s blatant disregard for the law.

* Lawmakers in the House of Representatives finally passed a
Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights this week after months of
waffling and partisan bickering. But that doesn’t mean ordinary
Americans are suddenly going to get a fair shake against the
greedy mega-companies. After all, the Senate still has to pass
the bill and the president has to sign it – both have said they
oppose legislation that helps the middle class and not
multi-billion dollar financial companies.
