Troubled insurer AIG lost billions more in the fourth quarter—and when the company’s gloomy results were announced Monday, the federal government (once again) came to the rescue. But keeping AIG breathing is becoming an increasingly expensive proposition, and one that can’t go on forever. The total price tag to date: $162 billion and counting.
