Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday, September 25, 2008

Tonight, the economic crisis continues to spiral out of
control. New unemployment claims last week shot up to nearly
half a million – the highest level since the 9/11 attacks seven
years ago. New home sales plummeted to a 17-year low. And
President Bush warns without a radical taxpayer bailout, the
nation’s economy will melt down.

Is it time to declare a recession, or in some cities, a
depression? We’ll have that story. Plus:

* The major Wall Street ratings firms played a big, and largely
overlooked, role in creating the current economic crisis.
Ratings companies are supposed accurately and impartially
analyze the books of financial institutions. But they failed to
do that. Instead these reckless firms signed off on the health
of companies like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Lehman Brothers
again and again, much the same way that Enron’s accountants
said everything was fine right up to its complete collapse.

* Residents of San Francisco hold a rally today to protest the
city’s illegal alien sanctuary policy. Protesters will meet
outside City Hall to call direct attention to San Francisco’s
blatant disregard for the law.

* A scientist living in Newport News, Va. has been charged with
selling rocket technology to China in the latest case of
Chinese espionage. Shu Quan-Sheng is the President of AMAC
International Inc. and is also charged with bribing Chinese
officials. Meanwhile, China today launched three men into orbit
on a mission set to include the Communist country’s first ever
space walk.
