Lou Dobbs Tonight
Monday July 21, 2008

Tonight, the Arizona business community moaned about the
catastrophic consequences it would suffer if it was forced to
comply with U.S. law by using the E-Verify system to ensure all
employees are legal workers.

That’s always the response of greedy companies trying to defend
their exploitative practices. But so far none of this gloom and
doom has come to pass, and even businesses are beginning to
admit it. We’ll have that story, plus:

* An illegal immigrant charged with killing a father and two
sons on a San Francisco street last month was one of the people
who benefited from the city's long-standing practice of
shielding illegal immigrant juveniles. Edwin Ramos, now 21, was
arrested on two felony charges as a juvenile but the city's
Juvenile Probation Department never alerted federal immigration
authorities.

* Congress has been promising legislation to help troubled for
four months, but nothing has been delivered, and thousands of
homeowners continue to enter into foreclosure every day.

* India is pushing the United States to create a new type of
visa that would get around the H-1b visa rules and caps. The
United States Trade Representative has not reveled what such a
visa would look like, or how many are being demanded. But
backers of U.S. labor see this for what it is: Just another
example of our government selling out American workers under
the banner of free trade.

* As Americans struggle with record oil and gas prices, some
landowners are making a lot of money from natural gas
exploration. Companies from Texas to Canada are paying
landowners to drill on their private land. T. Boone Pickens
advocates natural gas as an alternative to gasoline for
transportation fuel. Expanding this country’s limited natural
gas infrastructure could greatly reduce our dependence on
foreign oil.
