Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday July 10, 2008

Tonight, we’ll have a report on Jesse Jackson’s controversial
comments about Sen. Barack Obama and all the day’s news from
Washington and the campaign trail. Plus:

* Americans are at risk each day as they travel this nation’s
crumbling roads, bridges and highways. The Highway Trust Fund
provides funding for infrastructure projects in this country,
but the agency is facing budget shortfalls that could halt the
desperately-needed improvements. Sen. Max Baucus has been
fighting to add $8 billion to the Trust Fund, which is due for
reauthorization next year. But is that even enough?

* First it was Sens. Obama and McCain pandering to Latinos in
an effort to grab votes at the League of United Latin American
Citizens national convention. Today, Labor Secretary Elaine
Chao went before the organization to push the Bush
Administration’s cheap labor politics that blatantly and
deliberately disregard American workers.

* San Francisco is rewriting its policy on how to deal with
illegal alien juveniles caught breaking the law, after the city
was blasted for protecting them from federal officials. But
activists for illegal immigrants are urging city leaders to
these young criminals as kids in need of help. Meanwhile, San
Bernardino County leaders have blasted San Francisco for not
notifying them about the criminal records of eight Honduran
illegal immigrants caught dealing crack who escaped from a San
Bernardino juvenile home last month.

* Lawmakers are facing mounting pressure to combat rising gas
prices. Now, some Democrats are opening the door to a
compromise with Republicans on more domestic exploration.
Unfortunately, the Energy Information Agency has found that
opening up drilling would not significantly impact oil or gas
prices before 2030.

Today, the race for The White House is moving forward, but the
candidates are stuck in neutral and pandering to voters — Mr.
Independent will break it all down for you. Rep. Brian Bilbray
and Bound Brook, NJ City Councilman Jim Lefkowitz will join Lou
to talk about what needs to be done to solve the illegal
immigration crisis locally and nationally. And Lou will be
taking your calls on the Independent Hotline at 877-55 DOBBS.

Lou’s book INDEPENDENTS DAY is now on sale in bookstores and on
Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. In Independents Day, Lou
