Lou Dobbs Tonight

Tonight, a new attempt by the Bush administration to reshape
the political debate about the war in Iraq. The U.S. ambassador
to Iraq today said so-called benchmarks are not an effective
way to measure progress. At the same time, the number two U.S.
commander in Iraq declared he won’t be able to offer a complete
assessment of the surge until November at the earliest. That's
two months later than a deadline for a progress report on the
war. We’ll have the latest tonight.

Shocking new details on another law passed by Congress and
signed by President Bush that's not being enforced. This law
requires the government to tell you where your food comes from.
But powerful lobbyists in Washington are determined to make
sure that never happens. We'll have a special report.

The National Interagency Fire Center moved to a Preparedness
Level 5 today, the highest level possible, based on the current
and expected fire activity throughout much of the West. This
move was prompted by large fire activity occurring in multiple
geographic areas and a heavy commitment of crews, aircraft, and
equipment to these incidents, along with a forecast for
continued hot, dry, windy conditions. The move allows officials
to bring in help from foreign firefighters and the National
Guard.

Illegal aliens have been caught working at an Air Force base in
North Carolina, a shipyard in Mississippi, even working to help
build the border fence. The jobs all paid at by U.S. tax payer
dollars. But a new amendment from Congressman Jack Kingston of
Georgia could change all that. Kingston is offering legislation
that would require any contractor seeking government work to
use the Basic Pilot program to verify employees' legal U.S.
status.

We’ll have a special report on the billions of dollars worth of
drugs flowing across the border from Mexico into the U.S. and
the violence that it causes.

And, we'll talk with journalist and best-selling author, Rowan
Scarborough, about his latest book, "Sabotage: America's
Enemies within the CIA."
