* America has always been the land of opportunity and education
the great equalizer. But as the economic gap between the
classes continues to grow and the cost of education soars, do
those things still hold true? Academic experts and advisors to
the front-running presidential candidates met today to discuss
that issue as part of the Brookings Institution’s Economic
Mobility project.

* The deadline for high tech companies apply for H-1B visas is
April 1st. The process has been a frenzy in recent years, and
the Customs and Immigration Service is trying to crack down on
companies gaming the system by submitting duplicate
applications.

* Private sector employment is tanking. Private employers cut
100,000 jobs in January alone. The only place that jobs are
growing is in government. But the Bush administration hasn’t
strayed from its “strong economyâ€
