Lou Dobbs Tonight
Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Tonight, a day after Sen. Hillary Clinton trounced Sen. Barack
Obama in the West Virginia primary, the New York senator is
showing no signs of giving up in the race for the Democratic
nomination. We’ll have all the latest from the campaign trail,
plus:

* Tensions are escalating between Congressional Democrats and
the FDA over the agency’s handling of the tainted blood thinner
Heparin, which led to at least 81 deaths in the U.S.
Investigators are asking for a list of Chinese Heparin
suppliers, but the FDA is withholding the names, citing
confidentiality.

* Food price, gas prices, and utility prices are soaring and
Americans are turning to their credit cards more than ever to
help pay their bills. At the same time, credit card companies
are recklessly charging fees and raising interest rates with
little or no notice to their customers. The Joint Economic
Committee met today to examine what the government can do to
head off such abuses in the financial industry.

* The Department of Homeland Security met with community
members in Sierra Vista, Arizona last night to discuss the
impact of building a border fence in the area – the nation's
busiest for illegal alien crossings. Some community members are
fed up and want action, but others have concerns about
environmental impacts of more fencing.

* Middle class families’ wages are flat or falling and costs
are rising quickly. To get by, people are turning to payday
loans. By some estimates, payday loans topped $28 billion last
year, and have doubled every year for the past five years.
Unfortunately, these loans are made with deceptive and
predatory terms.
