Frustrated Smugglers Resort to Violence Against Border Patrol

Calexico, CA. – Frustrated criminals increasingly are using violence to intimidate U.S. Border Patrol enforcement efforts by brazenly attacking agents near Calexico, Calif.

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m., Border Patrol agents from the El Centro station were working three miles west of the Calexico port of entry when a group of suspected illegal aliens attempted to raft across the All-American Canal. The group, while still in close proximity to the border and having witnessed the quick response by nearby agents, was able to return back to Mexico before being apprehended.

After having returned to Mexico with the group of illegal aliens, three masked assailants/smugglers then re-entered the United States and began aggressively throwing rocks and threatening agents with physical injury. The agents on scene had to deploy their non-lethal force pepper ball launcher systems and saturated the area to subdue the assailants’ hostile actions. they eventually retreated back to Mexico.

No injuries were reported regarding this incident.

Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey Calhoon stated, “While rockings are not uncommon, these smugglers’ actions in climbing back over the fence and seeking out our agents in order to confront and possibly harm them is a clear indication of the growing desperation of the alien smuggling organizations. We will continue to combat this dangerous trend by relying on the professionalism, the expert training and the sound judgment of our courageous men and women in the Border Patrol as they work to control our borders and keep our nation safe. We will not allow the lawless, violent tactics of these criminals to threaten our communities and neighborhoods.â€

What a complete disgrace our policies are! These illegal invaders are threatening our agents with deadly force and they have to deploy non-leathal force against these invaders.

God bless our border patrol agents. You couldn't pay me enough to do that job!

I'm not so sure it's desperation as much as knowing they can away with it with minimul or any action taken against them. They've gotten brazen because they can.......and they know we won't let the border patrol fight back.

Yes. I suspect a few rounds out of a 9mm would probably be a better deterrent that a pepper ball launcher.

Why should our border patrol be asked to fight this war with one hand tied behind their backs. I suspect bush does not want to upset his beloved mexico.

This is even more ammunition for USANevadas idea of suing the govt....they are supposed to be protecting us....

Do you really feel safe when you walk past a day labor hiring hall, into a business staffed by illegals, or past a lanscaping crew or construction site with illegals? Of all the different types of persons who could be in the United States at any given time it is illegal aliensthat the US State Department recognizes as inherently dangerous.

In the meantime the unarmed Mexican border patrol, without even radio equipment, is doing their job of handing out survival booklets, water, food, and clothing to those who are going to cross our border illegally.

This uncooperation by the government of Mexico has to cease. The only thing they do on the border is enable illegal immigrants and file OFFICIAL complaints when our border agents take DEFENSIVE action like the tear gas cannisters or when an illegal immigrant is injured illegally entering our country.

I agree with you crazybird--they know they can get away with it and escape into Mexico without consequences from Mexican authorities.

Have the border patrol considered using tranquilizer guns on these types of criminials? I don't know if that's legal or how long it would take for the tranquilizer to take effect but if it takes effect immediately, the rock throwers would go down, be captured, jailed and put on trial for attempted murder. Something has to be done to halt these attacks.

I consider rock throwing as a violent act using lethal weapons and the border agents should be permitted to respond with whatever force is necessary to defend themselves and our country without question.

Article IV Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution.

Amen. The fact that our border patrol agents have to fight this invasion with one hand tied behind their backs while keeping their Springfield .45's holstered is the reason why these thugs carry out these brazen attacks on federal agents.

More evidence that there is the need for the National Guard and/or military forces on the border!

What they need to do is hire a baseball pitcher and train the agents to throw baseballs so they can engage them that way, just put a box of baseballs in the back of their rig.
