Urban Migration Triggers More Poverty
According to SEDESOL (social services), the economic boom in the city is causing more people to come to Leon, which generates an over-demand for services, which can’t be readily solved. Noting that Leon is one of the ten cities nationwide with the highest poverty, a social services representative said that they are studying how to work in a focused manner with the government. He continued that the migration to the city creates imbalances, and that they are hoping the new Congress will increase their budget.

Eleven thousand people have been hospitalized for suspected dengue hemorrhagic fever during this year. He said the year is closing with a weekly report of 99 cases, the lowest in ten years and credits prevention programs. He noted that involvement of the entire population is essential to combat dengue as mosquitos breeding in homes must be eliminated.
