Day laborers run risk of no pay and deportation

Angel, Carlos and Luis wait for employers to hire them for a day or a week. They alternate between two boroughs to avoid being targeted by immigration officials.

Before the sun rises in the South Bronx, men in steel boots, paint-speckled pants and baseball hats leave their homes and stand on corners.

$9 hour 10 hours a day 3 days a week= $270 a week

4 weeks a month +/- $1080 a month

long month figure + more days maybe $ 1500


send home $500

rent $350

food $10 a day $ 300


Bus/subway $50


phone card to call home $45

basic expense $1200

Very little these people claim ever adds up.

Most of them wouldn't know the truth if it came up and bit them in the ass. Same with the pro-illegal journalists reporting on them.

I think some of the Sob stories are written while sitting on a bar stool and there is no IA anywhere near the place. Its all made up.
