Maine Now Offering In-State Tuition Discounts to Illegal Immigrants

Illegal immigrants in the state of Maine now have access to in-state tuition discounts to all state institutions of higher learning, according to a Saturday report from the Bangor Daily News.

Undocumented students in the state of Maine now have access to in-state tuition discounts which save students in the state an average of $12,000 per year. According to a spokesperson from the University of Maine, only undocumented students who have obtained temporary protections from the Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that began in 2013 are eligible for in-state tuition benefits.


According to the report, 429 undocumented students in the state of Maine have received “temporary social security numbers, work permits, and protection from deportation under DACA.” So far, 13 undocumented students enrolled at state institutions throughout the state had chosen to disclose their DACA status to administrators.


The admissions process at Maine colleges does not ask for the immigration status of applicants but does ask for financial information on the applicant’s parents in order to calculate a student’s eligibility for financial aid. According to the report, non-U.S. citizens are generally not eligible for federal financial aid.


The report in the Bangor Daily News profiles student Fernando Martinez, whose family fled El Salvador when he was four years old. Martinez became one of the first students under the federal program to receive in-state tuition in Maine. Martinez claimed that he was grateful for the system because his status as an illegal immigrant prevents him from applying for federal college loans.


“This is such a great thing,” he said. “It only makes sense … there are so many kids who would love to get this.”

And who made this decision? It certainly wasnt the American public or Maine voters!

By President Trump not ending DACA on day one we are enabling illegal aliens to gain more advantages such as this (in-state tuition) and then they use their higher education and degrees to claim contributions to America. Illegal Aliens, their representatives (ex. La Raza, TIRRC, Conexion, New American Economy, MALDEF, LULAC),corrupt lawmakers, Republicans and democrats, all talk about the dollars invested in their education. Then they cry we must help them, we cannot turn away from throwing more money their way. All the while, they are hurting our own dreamers.

They don't mention it is citizen taxpayer dollars, from those who work and sacrifice for their own children, who have lost art class, music, sports, a good education to provide resources (ESL, free breakfast and lunch, after school care) for foreign citizens who should not be here. Teachers can often not acquire jobs because they are not bilingual.

DACA has been a disaster and President Trump should end it. If it still breaks his heart he has not learned enough about the broken hearts of millions of Americans affected by the illegal alien family, their scams and crimes. He needs to encourage them to go elsewhere, to export the good from America they have learned. American citizens do this regularly. They go out of country to work, teach, serve, etc.

President Trump and Republicans should visit any of the above mentioned sites (facebook, Twitter) of the enablers and read what they say about no walls, no deportation, and the negative things said about him and other Americans who want laws enforced and a wall built. Their plans are in plain sight, just open your eyes.

What a slap in the face to out of state legal residents. The whole out of state tuition should be gone. If they can do it for the illegals they can do it for all American citizens. Prejudice at its best.
