EL PASO, Texas — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and federal prosecutors have announced that a man accused of leading a Mexico-based drug trafficking organization aligned with the Sinaloa Cartel has been extradited by Mexico to the United States to stand trial.

Carlos Mario Gomez-Muro is facing cocaine trafficking charges. He is the subject of a DEA-FBI investigation which claims that the trafficking organization was responsible for importing cocaine to U.S. cities. The government alleges that couriers received bulk cash proceeds from the drug sales, which were smuggled across the border to Gomez and others in Mexico.

The United States sought the extradition of Gomez following his detention in Juarez by Mexican authorities last June.
