A 26-year-old man is accused of trying to kidnap an 8-year-old boy in the parking lot of an East Baton Rouge apartment building Wednesday, court documents indicate.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Daniel Arriaga after the alleged kidnapping, an affidavit of probable cause says.
The victim and a 6-year-old girl were playing in the parking lot at 13980 Florida Blvd. Arriaga is also accused in the affidavit of being an illegal immigrant — allegedly grabbed the boy from behind, covered the boy’s mouth and carried him 50 feet across the parking lot. The affidavit says Arriaga told the boy he was in trouble and was about to be punished.
The boy’s playmate helped him to escape by kicking and hitting Arriaga, the document says. The boy alerted his father about the incident and the father alerted the Sheriff’s Office.
Arriaga was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of simple kidnapping and simple battery.
