A man arrested Thursday for his girlfriend's murder was deported last summer and now has been flagged by ICE for a second time, according to officials.

Julio Cesar Alonso, 24, was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of murder for the death of 24-year-old Paulina Ramirez-Diaz, of Nipomo.

Alonso's last known address was in Santa Maria, according to San Luis Obispo County officials, who said he frequently stayed at the Nipomo home with the victim.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has lodged an immigration detainer against Alonso, according to ICE spokewoman Lori K. Haley. That detainer requests that local authorities notify ICE officials prior to Alonso's release, enabling the agency to take custody and pursue further immigration enforcement action.

Haley also noted that the databases at the Department of Homeland security show records of Alonso having previous contact with deportation officers with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in December 2015 at a prison where he was serving a sentence related to a conviction in another criminal case.

At that time, ICE placed Alonso in immigration proceedings, and in August 2016 an immigration judge with the Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review ordered him to be removed from the U.S., according to Haley.

He was deported to Mexico the same day that ruling was handed down.

It it unclear how he re-entered the county but is now a suspect in a homicide Wednesday.

Authorities found Ramirez-Diaz's body inside a home in the 600 block of Pomeroy Road at 3 a.m. after receiving a 911 call to the residence. She suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck.

The incident was initially treated as a "suspicious death," and Alonso was detained for questioning. Following further investigation, detectives gathered enough evidence to hold him responsible for Ramirez-Diaz's death.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney has yet to file any formal charges against Alonso as of Friday.
