Man charged in stabbing of Fuquay-Varina girl is in U.S. illegally

    Aliana Ramos - Staff writer

One of the men accused of fatally stabbing a 15-year-old Fuquay-Varina girl is in the country illegally, authorities said Tuesday.

Gabriel Alejandro Maricio Lopez, 20, of Apex, is accused of stabbing Maria Patricia Perez-Godinez, his girlfriend, 30 times at Jordan Lake sometime Friday, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

Lopez, of Puebla, Mexico, was charged Sunday with murder. He has since been flagged as an illegal immigrant by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Maj. Gary Blankenship, a spokesman for the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

Lopez will remain to face the first degree-murder charges, Blankenship said.

Alejandro Prada Sanchez, 19, also was charged Sunday in connection with Perez-Godinez’s death.

Perez-Godinez’s family, meanwhile, planned to hold a funeral service Wednesday.

The details that emerged Tuesday helped shape a more complete picture of what happened to the rising Fuquay-Varina High School freshman. But many questions remain.

The tragic chain of events started at about 11 a.m. Thursday, when the teen’s mother noticed her missing, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s office who took the missing person’s report.

The officer at the time classified the case as a runaway based on the information provided by Perez-Godinez’s mother, said Phyllis Stephens with the Wake County Sheriff’s office.

Investigators say Perez-Godinez may have died about noon on Friday – almost 13 hours before her body was found face-down on the edge of Jordan Lake.

But the actual time of the crime might be hard to determine, given the heat and decomposition of the body, Blankenship said. The N.C. Medical Examiner’s office is still working on an autopsy.

Authorities believe Lopez and Perez-Godinez had an argument at Jordan Lake.

He allegedly then stabbed her about 30 times and left her body there.

Sanchez, of Apex, was present during the crime, investigators say.

Perez-Godinez was found by a fisherman at about 1 a.m. Saturday on the west side of Farrington Road across from the Bells Church pier, Blankenship said.

Her body was found partly on the shoreline with her bottom half in the water, according to an emergency dispatch recording released Tuesday.

The man who called in the discovery, who was not identified in the recording, repeatedly said he was “scared,â€

It's amazing that they actually published his immigration status! I certainly had my suspicions when I first read the story on my local news website.

A 20 year old man with a 15 year old kid. I cannot stomach that kiddie rape culture.

Send him to Texas and execute him there in front of the wall so all those on the other side can see we are serious about prosecuting illegals who break the law here.

Make sure the Mexican Consulate has been contacted so that when he gets the death penalty they can't cry about him not having access to the consulate . This should be a public execution .

Also amazing that the N&O called him an "illegal immigrant" rather than the PC "undocumented."

i want to see the term "illegal alien" but
illegal immigrant is better than "undocumented worker."

I'm certain if there's a way Obama will turn him loose and he'll come back to murder again.

    UPDATE

Boyfriend of stabbed NC girl suspected of immigration violation after 2009 border violation

    By Associated Press

    9:06 a.m. EDT, August 15, 2011

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The boyfriend of a 15-year-old North Carolina girl found fatally stabbed on the edge of a lake is also wanted by federal immigration officials.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports Monday (http://bit.ly/rpZVQG ) that Gabriel Alejandro Maricio Lopez was deported to his native Mexico in 2009. U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement official Danielle Bennett says Lopez had no significant criminal history at the time.

ICE placed a detainer on the 20-year-old Apex resident after he was charged with first-degree murder last week. Lopez will stay in the United States to face the felony charge.

Authorities believe that Lopez and Maria Patricia Perez-Godinez had an argument at Jordan Lake. He is accused of stabbing her and leaving her body there. Investigators say a second man charged was present during the crime.
