FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Authorities detained a man on immigration charges late Saturday after investigating a possible bomb threat at a Greyhound bus station.
The FBI said officials had been tracking the man for several days because he left suspicious material in a Florida hotel. An FBI spokesman would not say what that material was.

FBI agent Tim Gannon said the agency received a tip about the man while his bus was en route from Florida. A passenger said she sat near the man and that he seemed anxious and often sent text messages in a foreign language.

Several passengers said federal agents were waiting at the station and handcuffed the man when he stepped off the bus. About 100 people were evacuated from the bus station.

Officials searched his luggage but said they found no explosives or related substances.

Fayetteville police Capt. Michael Calfee would not release the name of the man, whom he described as a foreigner.

The man was to be questioned by immigration and customs enforcement officers, Calfee said.
