Raid at the Country Club of Little Rock
http://www.arktimes.com/blogs/arkansasb ... _club.aspx
Raid at the club
Immigration and Customs officers swept down on the Country Club of Little Rock yesterday, a source tells us, and arrested 14 to15 workers for lack of proper papers. So far, we've been unable to reach a government spokesman for the particulars and the club manager declined all comment. Our source indicates the group will be arraigned in federal court Friday afternoon. They face deportation at a minimum, but criminal charges of if fraudulent documents are involved.
Yes, shades of the big Arkadelphia raid: Many of the workers had established homes in Little Rock and their arrest and jailing leaves some families at loose ends. Some of the children may be citizens, however, if born in the U.S. The workers included long-term workers in both grounds and club jobs. We've been told that there are no families with children in which both parents were arrested.
We'll have more when and if we're able.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

I wonder if old Bill Clinton still has a membership at the club?
Maybe the next raid should target the Clinton library.

By DAVID JOHNSTON,
Webster L. Hubbell, the Clinton Administration's nominee for the third-highest post in the Justice Department, said today that he had resigned from an Arkansas golf club that had been all white until last year, when it recruited its first and only black member. Mr. Hubbell, who had been under fire for his membership in the Country Club of Little Rock, said at a Senate confirmation hearing that he had decided to resign after concluding that his membership could be a liability. He said he sent a resignation letter on Tuesday.

By DAVID JOHNSTON,
After some nasty nomination fights in recent years over Republicans who belonged to clubs that excluded blacks, a conservative group is after Webster L. Hubbell, a Democratic nominee at the Justice Department, over his membership at a country club in Little Rock, Ark., that they say is all white. Mr. Hubbell, the designee to be Associate Attorney General, has been a chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court, a mayor of Little Rock and a law partner of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Since he started at the Justice Department early this year, working without a title, he has played an important behind-the-scenes role in virtually every big decision, including the tear-gas assault on the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Tex., last month.

The Country Club of Little Rock, where Bill Clinton has played golf several times a year since he became Governor, sits on a graceful hill in an exclusive neighborhood called the Heights, its greens sloping down to the Arkansas River. Opened just after the turn of the century, it recalls an older South in many ways, including its membership: 500 white men and women. Last week Mr. Clinton, his quest for the Democratic Presidential nomination seemingly wrapped up, found himself under fire for playing at the club, and he quickly admitted he had made a mistake and vowed never to play there again until it was integrated.

By ANDREW ROSENTHAL,
After months of presenting himself as a Southern candidate with a good civil rights record, Gov. Bill Clinton has suddenly found himself under criticism for a classic gesture of racial separation: playing golf at an all-white country club. Mr. Clinton was chided by a leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Little Rock and by Gov. L. Douglas Wilder of Virginia for playing golf on Wednesday at the Country Club of Little Rock, an upper-crust bastion in the Arkansas state capital. The rebuke by Dale Charles, president of the Little Rock chapter of the civil rights group was first reported on Thursday by The Washington Times.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

LR Country Club Employees Arrested by Immigration Authorities
Thursday August 24, 2006 7:09pm
Little Rock (AP) - Eleven employees of the Country Club of Little Rock have been arrested by federal authorities as part of an identity-theft investigation. U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins says the employees were arrested Thursday and will be arraigned in federal court Friday.
He says they were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, while Social Security investigators and U.S. marshals were also involved. Cummins declined to characterize the arrests as an immigration raid, but would not say whether any of the employees were illegal immigrants.
Cummins says the charges are more focused on identity-theft issues of misuse of Social Security numbers. A call to the club's manager was not immediately returned this afternoon, but Cummins says the club's management had cooperated with authorities in the investigation.
Cummins would not say how long the investigation had been underway and would not identify those who were arrested. Last year, 30 children were separated from their parents when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 119 illegal immigrant workers at the Petit Jean poultry plant in Arkadelphia.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Raid unmasks country club
Someone in the federal establishment has a perfect sense of the sublime. He or she caused the U. S. Immigration and Customs services to raid the Little Rock Country Club last week and arrest 11 immigrant employees, illegal aliens almost certainly, because they did not have good citizenship papers. Some had been working there or in the neighborhood for many years.
They are being held in the Pulaski County Jail, where scores of violent predators charged with felonies are being turned away because there is no room. The state Board of Pardons and Paroles this week declared an emergency so that hundreds of prison inmates can be released early to accommodate the huge backlog of criminals waiting to see the inside of county jail cells or the penitentiary. But the waiters and greenskeepers at the LRCC are safely in bondage.
Last year, the arrest of 199 illegal immigrant workers at the Petit Jean poultry plant at Arkadelphia, separating 30 children from their parents, gave people in that community a new perspective on the immigration issue. Gov. Huckabee denounced the raid. Unless our knowledge of the locker room and the men’s grill at the LRCC is badly amiss, there have been many maledictions there about illegal aliens soaking up their taxes.
In a way, the LRCC raid is a microcosm of this burning issue. It is the business class that has reaped the rewards of the vast influx of hard-working people who have poured across our borders looking for low-wage jobs. It may take a few more bucks now to get the tables bused and the fairways manicured at the CC.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn
