Man with fake immigration card admits to grabbing woman’s throat
    By LILA FUJIMOTO, Staff Writer
WAILUKU – A 28-year-old man had a fake immigration card when he was arrested last month for allegedly trying to abduct and sexually assault a woman in Lahaina, court records show.

Questioned by a police officer the day after the June 25 incident, Jorge Alberto Lobos-Aquil admitted that he intended to molest the woman, according to police reports.

A Sept. 11 trial is scheduled in 2nd Circuit Court for Lobos-Aquil. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, attempted first-degree sexual assault and first-degree forgery.

He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Maui Community Correctional Center.

He was arrested after police responded to a call from a 39-year-old Lahaina woman who was walking south on Front Street at about 8:20 p.m. when she was stopped by a man riding a bicycle who asked for directions in Spanish. She answered and continued walking down the street.

The woman said she walked past a white van parked on the mauka side of the 400 block of the street when someone grabbed her neck from behind. She said the man tried to drag her behind the van before she started screaming and was thrown to the ground.

According to police reports, the man then took his bicycle and headed north on Front Street before starting to ride back toward the woman, who had used a cellular telephone to call police.

“When he saw she was on the phone, he turned and took off again,” police reported.

The woman described the man as wearing a light-colored shirt and white baseball cap.

At 8:32 p.m., a Lahaina patrol officer checking the area saw a man matching the description in the 400 block of Front Street.

The man refused to give his name, address or other information but was initially identified as Jorge Lopez-Dominguez from identification found on him.

He said he didn’t speak English and had been drinking beer nearby.

Police contacted the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which determined that the suspect had a permanent residency card with a number that actually belonged to a 36-year-old Colombian man.

When he was questioned by a police officer who speaks Spanish, the suspect said that he was born in Guatemala and had paid a coyote – a slang reference to a border smuggler – $2,500 to enter the United States, traveling through Mexico to Phoenix, according to police reports. The suspect told police he arrived on Maui on March 10 and was staying in Lahaina while working as a dishwasher.

He acknowledged that he had asked the woman for directions and grabbed her around the throat, but claimed she fell to the ground when he stepped back, according to the police report. He also admitted “that his intention was to go to bed with her, which he later changed to molesting her,” the report said.

Lobos-Aquil told police he didn’t intend to harm or rob the woman.

She received three stitches to the back of her head.

Well I guess the time is coming when women MUST carry pepper spray or be armed with a gun since this lunatic doesn't see rape as harming anyone.

Iowa is implimenting very strong child protection laws and the devil be dammed about "civil rights" of perpetrators. They have also enacted legislation that provides protection for defending oneself in public areas like parking lots and car jackings. I can remember the time in our quiet little state when laws like this were needed by other states... not ours. So goes the heart land So goes our nation
