Man fatally stabbed at Hempstead Laundromat

A 23-year-old man was stabbed at a Hempstead Laundromat Wednesday night, Nassau County police said.

Christian Pagan was pronounced dead at Winthrop University Hospital shortly after the incident.

According to detectives, the victim was found at the Laundry Palace on Clinton St. bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds to his chest.

Laundry Palace was also the scene of a shooting in 2003 and another shooting in 1999.

In the June 18, 2003 incident a group of youths had been standing near the Laundromat at 9:40 p.m. when several shots were fired toward them, police said.

A 16-year-old was shot in the leg and a 15-year-old was hit three times. Both sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested four MS-13 gang members in connection with the shooting.

On October 25, 1999 a 29-year-old man was fatally shot at Laundry Palace. Nassau police said GIlberto Martinez was struck once in the chest and taken from the scene by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre and pronounced dead a short time later.


Police said Martinez, who was with at least three friends, had been arguing with another man. The gunman fled the scene. Police, at the time, investigated the possibility that the incident was racially motivated or gang related.

A Hempstead man is dead after police say he was stabbed at a Hempstead Laundromat.

Nassau police say they found 23-year-old Christian Pagan at Laundry Palace on 416 Clinton St. in Hempstead on Nov. 16. Pagan was bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds to his chest.

Pagan was rushed to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola where he was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m.

Laundry Palace is no stranger to violence, especially gang violence. In October of 1999, a 29-year-old man was shot outside the Laundromat.

On June 18, 2003, suspected members of the MS-13 gang conducted a drive by shooting in which two victims, ages 15 and 16, were injured. The Salvadorans With Pride gang is believed to control the area around the Laundromat and has been targeted by MS-13 rivals, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
