DENVER (AP) - Immigrant rights groups are calling for a weeklong economic boycott in Colorado beginning March 25 that would include not sending money to Latin American countries.

A coalition of groups is also planning to lobby Congress next week, asking lawmakers to support a pathway to legalization for illegal immigrants and to support the DREAM Act. That legislation would help undocumented students have access to college.

Boycott organizers are urging immigrants and supporters to avoid spending money on anything except necessities such as food and medicine. They are also discouraging consular transactions and sending money abroad.

Outspoken illegal immigration opponent US Representative Tom Tancredo says an economic boycott would make little difference.
