Man hurt after crossing border illegally rescued

    Posted: Mar 12, 2014

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border was rescued after he was injured after falling from a ridge near Nogales in southern Arizona.

A Customs and Border Protection helicopter spotted the injured man Monday night when he signaled for help. An agent was lowered to help the man and the helicopter then hoisted up the injured man before taking him to a waiting ambulance.

However the man's condition was deemed to be serious enough that he was transferred to a civilian medical helicopter for transport to a Tucson hospital.

According to CBP, the man fell approximately 125 feet and had possible internal bleeding and was coughing up blood and having trouble bleeding. He also had a badly broken ankle and cuts to his face and back.

Nothing about his operation was cheap for you and me.
Data that Kaiser Health News collected from seven states that are thought to have the highest numbers of illegalimmigrants show that the funding pays for emergency services delivered to more than 100,000 people a year.
California hospitals get about half the $2 billion spent annually on Emergency Medicaid. The rest is spread mainly among a handful of states.
