MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) - A Yamhill County grand jury indictment says a 26-year-old man has admitted drinking beer before a crash on Mother's Day that killed a mother of seven.

Authorities say Leonel Zurita-Loeza of Portland had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

They say he was on diversion from a DUI charge and the car he was using had an emergency spare rated for 50 mph driving.

He's charged with manslaughter and assault, among other counts. He's being held on $1 million bail.

Immigration authorities have placed him under a federal detainer because he is in the country illegally.

The crash killed 52-year-old Carma Smith of Dayton, a long-time rural mail carrier. She had just celebrated her 33rd wedding anniversary.
