Escondido firm improves screening for illegal workers

A small manufacturing company in Escondido has completed a training program with federal immigration authorities on how to best screen for unauthorized employees.

Unicel Corp. President Mike Henderson said Friday that the business has been certified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after training to follow the agencies best practices for hiring.

The company learned how to better review federal I-9 work authorization forms using a government verification system for Social Security numbers.
