A federal judge in Idaho has revoked the citizenship of a man who admitted he entered into a fraudulent marriage to gain citizenship in the United States.
The U.S. attorney's office says 38-year-old Americo De La Cruz of Hailey faces deportation to Peru.
De La Cruz pleaded guilty on Aug. 31 to unlawful procurement of U.S. citizenship. He acknowledged that in 2000, he married a woman to gain citizenship in the United States. He was granted permanent residency in March 2004 and was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in July 2009.
De Le Cruz was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill, who also sentenced him to five years of probation.
