TECATE — A man wanted for murder in New York was arrested trying to re-enter the United States last week at the Tecate Port of Entry.

Rene Aguilar Orzuna showed up on foot about 5:30 p.m. Friday and presented a valid U.S. passport to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, authorities said.

It was discovered that the passport did not belong to Aguilar, a 28-year-old citizen of Mexico from Puebla, and that it had been altered with his photo.

Authorities learned that Aquilar had an active no-bail homicide warrant for his arrest, issued in New York City in connection with a murder on June 5, 2003. The man was arrested and is being held in San Diego County Jail.
