Migrant workers to graduate from Sac State Program
The dream of receiving a high school diploma will become a reality for 130 students as Sacramento State celebrates their graduation from its Cross Cultural Resource Center’s High School Equivalency Program from 1 to 4 p.m, Friday, July 29 in the University Union Ballroom.
The commencement address will be presented by Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Worker union with Cesar Chavez. Eight student speakers will share their thoughts with the assembly. Alejandra Bologna, Mexico’s consulate general, will also be speaking to the graduates after opening remarks by program director David Bayer.
The federally funded High School Equivalency program has been helping migrant workers prepare for the General Education Diploma since 1993. It also offers preparation courses to get students ready for placement in local universities, community colleges, adult schools and occupational training programs.
A reception will follow with entertainment by Sacramento Mariachi and Cesar Chavez School folklorico dancers.
