NEWTON — A man suspected of entering a house in Newton and shooting one of its residents through a door earlier this month has been arrested in Texas, according to a report on NJHerald.com.

Karl R. Friday, 38, a former Denville resident, broke into a house on Madison Street about 2:20 a.m. on Feb. 8, authorities say. He then fired a MAK 90 Sporter 7.62 x 39 caliber rifle and struck a man in the shoulder. A woman and two children who also barricaded themselves in a room were not harmed, the report said.

Friday was taken into custody at 5:45 p.m. Monday in Sierra Blanca, Texas after being removed from a Greyhound bus that was stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agents at an inspection checkpoint along Interstate 10, the report said. He will be extradited to New Jersey.

Friday is charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses, authorities told NJHerald.com.

Police have acknowledged the shooter knew the people in the house, but didn't explain how.
