GULFPORT -- A man found living in the United States without permission has been sentenced for using someone else's Social Security number to buy a car from a Gulfport dealership.

Pedro Vasquez-Quintero, 42, received credit for time served and was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation proceedings.

He had been arrested after his indictment was filed Oct. 21.

He pleaded guilty to Social Security fraud April 28.

As part of his plea agreement, U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden required him to pay off a car he had bought from a Toyota dealership in Gulfport and to pay off credit he had established in someone else's name.

Court papers show he also had to sell a home he owned on Cypress Avenue in Gulfport.

News of his immigration status apparently came as a surprise to his wife, who told the Sun Herald he had used deceit to make every purchase he'd made for more than 10 years.

He was sentenced July 28.
